A New Year, A New Resolve

I got this idea from a friend, so I must give credit where credit is due. That belongs to Haley McDonald. She made the resolution to read a book a week over the year.

I love reading and don't get as much in as I would like. My friend, Stuart McGuiggan, works for a Christian publishing company and reads a new book every 2-3 days! I wish I were disciplined enough to do that!

So, I'm gonna shoot for my 52 books this year! I enjoy mostly novels....mainly fiction. I have read some historical fiction that I enjoy. I'm not much for non-fiction. It has to be nail-biting and gripping non-fiction to keep my attention. So having said that, any suggestions?

I did start Blessed Are the Cheesemakers a few days ago, so I'm counting that as part of this year!

Happy New Year, y'all!

Thanks for the shout out Sarah.

Ok - you've challenged me to find you some great non-fiction. I'll get a list together and send it over later this week.

Much love - The McGuiggans

Stuart, I want to be as disciplined as you are....and not just in reading. Blue Like Jazz is on my list, which you sent to me. I also have some Lauren Winner. Which of hers is the best?

I love the McGuiggans!

Did you ever read The Art of Racing in the Rain? If not I can pass that one on to you. Right now I'm reading these books I got from our school library called The Hunger Games ... I am surprised how much I like them. I've already pre-ordered the third one that doesn't come out until August.

I never liked to read until I was teaching in St. Louis. A woman gave me a Patricia Cornwell book and I was hooked. So if you like any kind-of murder mystery type stuff she's very good.

Good luck with your goal.

Great Idea Sarah! I'm going to start reading Karen Kingsbury's books. I've been told to start with the Redemption Serious.

Paige, I haven't read that book, but I'm interested. I started reading Patricia Cornwell's book about who she thought was Jack the Ripper. I ended up not finishing it. I thought her evidence was not solid enough for her accusations. I would be open to some of her other work if it were more gripping than her Jack the Ripper book.

Megan I haven't heard of that series. I'll look it up.

I just realized that in this endeavor, I will be forced to finish books even if I don't like them, otherwise I'll loose precious time. I've finally reached a point in reading that if I didn't like a book, I would put it down and stop reading it. So whatever I read this year really needs to be good, so I'm not trudging my way through to finish.

Funny that you started with Jack the Ripper. I think it's the worst book she has written. The rest are fiction and keep me pretty interested.

Have you read any Amy Tan? She is one of my favorites.

Yay!! Good luck; I only got to 32 last year, I found there were weeks where I'd finish 2 or 3 and weeks where I wouldn't touch a book. Hope you can make it!! Blue Like Jazz is awesome, and so is The Art of Racing in the Rain, both of which were on my list last year!
