My friend, Paige, wrote on her blog about the Bah Humbugs. I seem to have caught them myself. Don't get me wrong, I am so thankful for the break. I am just not into Christmas this year like I usually am. I generally buy a real tree, and go all out, but this year I couldn't bring myself to do so. Friends and family are going to be lucky if they're presents are even wrapped this year!
My aunt Susan sent me a homemade, Montana, spruce swag. I have it on my door, but that is the extent of my Christmas decorating. It is beautiful and it is cheery on my door.
It is odd though, I have talked to some of my friends and they have kind of have the same Christmas blahs as I do. I wonder if its something in the water.
I am really excited about going skiing next week through New Years. I have some friends who have a cabin in Angel Fire and several of us are going for a few days. It should be a fun time! I called my friend, Julie, whose cabin we are going to. We were talking about food and what to cook and what to bring. She said I could just bring the stuff and cook it there. I was thinking "Uhhh, I'm gonna be on the slopes from the time they open til they close everyday we are there!" Of course I'll be glad to cook before I get there, but I intend to be skiing & sleeping!
Ok, I'll stop rambling. I would like to know some of your best christmas memories/traditions. My fondest memories include sleeping under the Christmas tree at my grandparents' house in Muleshoe. So do share!

My favorite Christmas was a couple of years ago skiing in Red River NM. Lots of fun....My son Brent is quite the snowboarder and Brooke would ski and my little one Baylee was skiing at age 3. She is a mess. Last year she was skiing on the bunny slope and skiied down by herself and we couldn't find her and she had gotten on the lift by herself and was just waving at us with her tiny self on the lift. Turned out OK. She then skiied down with Santa and was beaming.....I'm having a pretty good one now. I'm at Padre Island staying in a big home on the water with my parents and sisters and their husbands and my little neice Hadlea. The blahs are still present because it is so unchristmas to be in a tropical place for me. My family thought I needed a new tradition so here I am. Hope you have a good one and have fun skiing!
I am so sorry that we missed you, before the break--even if you do have the blah's.
I've enjoyed all my Christmases since I've been married--wasn't always that way before. One of my favorite as a single though was when Tech played in the Sun Bowl on Christmas Day. The Goin' Band went, and I had a blast with 400 of my closest friends.
Traditions...My favorite would have to be making my Christmas cookies and reindeer food to leave for Santa on Christmas Eve.
However, this year we fed the homeless the Sunday before and it was a real eye opener. I think that ranks right up there.
Anyway, I have rambled with you enough (see what happens when you skip out on our weekly date). Be safe on the slopes and ski some for me! We'd love to see you at least a little during the break if you aren't too busy on slopes! If not...Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year!
I am so glad you get to go skiing. Lynn has been checking the ski reports every day.
We took many Christmas ski trips. I would pack presents and all and take them with us. it was fun skiing on Christmas day, and there was usually someone that would dress as Santa. I loved the festive feeling up in the mountains with the snow and the Chirstmas songs playing, and everyone wishing each other Merry Christmas.
I hope you have a safe trip and make as many runs as possible every day, and then crash at night and be in bed by 8:30.
And I say, frozen lasagne is good enough.
My mom used to make these subtly spiced sugar cookies that had spiced green and red gum-drops on the top and of course, the best apple pie in the world.
Christmas on the field was probably one of the most meaningful because it was where all those traditions became suddenly so precious.
I think my favorite Christmas memory, though, was the year my brother and I bought my parents a Bose Acoustic wave machine. They had wanted one for as long as I can remember. We put it on the coffee table and covered it with a wrapped, bottomless box. Then we wrapped the remote, which was the size of a credit card, and that's what we handed my dad to open on Christmas Day. He didn't realize what it was right away, but when he did he started to tear up. My mom was trying to figure out what was wrong and he was trying to wave her to the box to open it. It was so fun watching her lift the box off of the Bose. And when she saw it, she started tearing up. But she also started jumping up and down and squealing. I think she would make a great contestant on the Price is Right. It was so wonderful to see them so giddy.
Christmas doesn't seem quite like Christmas without snow. I love Christmas in the mountains! I am hoping for good snow this next week!
Celia, that sounds like a good plan. I have a feeling the other folks going will head to bed that early. I am NOT a night owl! 8:30 sounds dreamy to me!
Elaine, I definitely want to connect with you guys. I will try to give yous a call this week before I leave for Angel Fire.
One of my favorite Christmas treats was my grandmother's candy! Divinity & Cathedral cookies were among my faves!
I am loving hearing everyones family traditions and favorites, and so many involve food.
And they are all different.
We all create something special with our own loved ones.
I loved Christmas on the field. There were about 4 of us that didn't go home. Our families felt sorry for us so we got tons of presents. It was like a kid's dream come true. I remember we pulled mattresses into the guys' living room and we all slept in there ... Jon's family sent him a cd of them singing Christmas carols and stuff ... we were all crying. It's hard to explain but it felt good to be where we were ... together ... and it also felt good to know we had good people at home praying for us.
